PROCLAMATION DETAILS Below we are asking for 4 "whereas" clauses
| Whereas,* | Every 9 minutes someone in the United States is diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, is the second most common age-related neurodegenerative disorder after Alzheimer’s disease, with over 1 million people in the US and over 10 million in the world diagnosed, which is more than those affected by multiple sclerosis (MS), muscular dystrophy (MD), and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) combined. |
| Whereas,* | Parkinson Partners of Northwest PA, Inc. is an Erie-based nonprofit organization, founded in 1992 that seeks ways to provided help and hope to those with Parkinson's and their families, through support, education, advocacy and awareness. |
| Whereas,* | Parkinson Partners of Northwest PA and it's community partners: the Salvation Army, Gannon University and the Hamot Health Foundation celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Erie Parkinson's Purposeful Movement and Wellness Program, which provides a PD-specific exercise program with one-on-one assistance from Gannon University students, knowing that exercise plays a key role in the wellness, health and quality of life for those with PD. |
| Whereas,* | An increase in Parkinson's awareness, education, services and support will provide better outcomes for those with Parkinson's disease and will provide help to their spouses, family and caregivers |
| Now therefore,* | we designate April as Parkinson's Disease Awareness Month in the city of Erie and encourage all citizens to recognize American Parkinson's Disease Awareness Month and join Parkinson Partners of NW PA in supporting those with PD and encourage their participation in the Erie Parkinson's Purposeful Movement and Wellness Program, educational seminars and other support services, as we look each day to the cure. |
